Workers in the manufacturing industry know that every time there is an economic downturn, Australian businesses shut down and products that were once produced here by Australian workers are replaced by imports.
Everybody knows that this is no way for a sustainable economy to operate.
If we continue to increase our imports at the expense of Australian made products we will go backwards and fast.
For this reason the CFMEU FFPD is calling on the Federal Government to develop a plan to ensure a viable and sustainable future for the forest and forest products industry.
Our industry employs double the number the number of people employed by the automotive industry and we urgently need a strategic industry plan to be developed for our industry.
Supporting industry development will save our jobs and help to create a better future for all of us.
