What Is A Union Delegate?
A Union Delegate is a CFMEU FFPD member who wants to work with his or her fellow union members, workmates and Union officials, to make things better/fairer at work.
Delegates can nominate themselves and then be elected by a vote of their workmates, however some delegates are elected unopposed, because no one else no one else wants to work in the role.
On any worksite the Delegate is the link between the Union’s members and the Union District committee. It is through the Delegate that members can raise issues for attention and receive advice.
Delegates keep an eye on the workplace, and go into bat for any of their members who have issues or complaints about workplace matters.
CFMEU Union Officials know that a good, skilled Delegate makes their role much easier. These “Union Officials” are the people who work in the District/Branch or the National Office administering a range of big picture union jobs like negotiating with companies, organizing campaigns, presenting cases to industrial authorities, lobbying politicians and resolving serious member issues.
lmost all Officials in the FFPD started out their union involvement as Delegates on particular worksites.
In the FFPD, Delegates receive no monetary payment for the role they play in assisting their fellow workers.
