The dispute goes back to 2008 and members have now voted to accept a 12 month deal and a wages offer from the company.
Crucial to the dispute's settlement was the members capacity to stand together at the picket line; a further ten days of planned industrial action and a letter from the International Pulp and Paper Workers Union (ICEM). This letter, sent to Huhtamaki's Finnish management, forecast industrial action across Huhtamaki's entire global production network if the Australian management continued its stalling.
Now to be lodged with Fair Work Australia is a 12 month collective agreement, which on top of wage increases, also contains a number of significant worker protections through new clauses.
The members from Huhtamaki have shown through their actions that together we are stronger.
