The CFMEU Forestry and Furnishing Products Division will today pull out of any involvement with the Forest and Forest Industry Council of Tasmania.

CFMEU Forestry and Furnishing Products Division National Secretary Michael O’Connor said the decision reflected frustration by the Union's membership in Tasmania as to the effectiveness of the organisation.

“Its no secret that the Union has had concerns about the Council’s effectiveness for some time.  They released an industry plan recently which we regard as not dealing with the real issues facing the industry.”

“The Forest and Forest Industry Council of Tasmania is unfortunately becoming a sideshow.”

“The CFMEU does however remain very committed to working with the industry, government and community to ensure Tasmania does continue to have a viable and sustainable forestry industry going forward.”
