CFMEU FFPD Pulp and Paper Workers District
About Us...
The Pulp & Paper Workers' District of the Construction, Forestry, Mining and Energy Union (CFMEU) represents workers in the pulp and paper industry across Australia. Before amalgamating to become part of the CFMEU, our union had been registered since 8th August 1913.
Workers involved in making and working with pulp, paper, paperboard and cardboard, tissue products, paper bags and sacks can all be members of the CFMEU, through the Pulp & Paper Workers' Branch.
The Branch is part of the Forestry and Furnishing Products Division (FFPD) of the CFMEU because of the close relationship between the Forest and Forest Products Industry and the Pulp and Paper Industry.
CFMEU members in the Australian Pulp and Paper Industry are directly represented through their own 'Sub-Branch'. In most areas, single mills are Sub-Branches that elect their own Secretary, President, Vice Presidents and Committee of Management. The role of each Sub-Branch Committee of Management is to manage the funds and day to day operations of the Sub-Branch.
Because our Sub-Branches are legally recognized in the CFMEU's rules, employers are legally obliged to deal with the elected representatives. This means members never have to wait for a union organizer who doesn't know the issues and might never even have been to the mill before!
Supporting the Sub-Branches, our union has a Federal Office located in Melbourne. The Branch Secretary, Alex Millar and our union's professional staff work from the Federal Office.
Our union's leadership in the industry is recognised by the offices of the Pulp & Paper Industry Occupational Health, Safety and Environment Unit and Pulp & Paper Industry Skills Development Unit all being located in our Federal Office.
